New figures show that the number of people who are obese hs tripled in the last two decades and the number is still rising. Figures that are to be shown to the parliament show that most adults are overweight and one in five are clinically obese. This caused 300000 premature deaths in England alone in 1998. This is not the overall obesity rate for the United Kingdom. Obesity rates in America are much higher. The National Health Service pays over £500 million in treating people with obesity and it is hampering other developments which could be taking place.
It estimated that each person, whose death is directly linked to an obesity related condition, loses nine years of life. This is an astounding figure which needs to be reduced dramatically. The obesity rate is causing more and more health problems through diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, high cholesterol and arthritis. Most of these can be prevented if a person with obesity looses weight and sticks to a healthy routine.
The obesity rate in America tells us that over 300 million adults are struggling to cope with their obesity and medical problems. Obesity cannot be stopped by eating less dohnuts and walking to work, it needs hard fast methods of approach and they need to be carried out with the utmost dedication. It takes a lot of time to loose weight healthily and quick fix fad diets should not be attempted as the weight that is lost through these diets is very easily put back on with more weight added to the total figure, most of the diets weight is loss is only water and lean muscle.
To cut the obesity rate we as a civilization need to correct the way that people are living and try to give them a better head in life. People need to see that eating healthy and exercise wont only keep them slim but it will help to prevent them from contracting any chronic diseases and keep them healthy in general. The obesity rate needs to be lowered any way that we can!
